Head tennis coach Dennis Sobecki

Just this morning I held an interview with head coach Sobecki of the Ayersville Boys tennis team. I chose to interview this coach specifically because high school tennis is an uncommon high school sport. Dennis stated that he always had an interest in tennis and started playing it recreationally after high school. He is never played tennis for a school but became very knowledgeable of the sport and started to become very intrigued by it. He was a varsity basketball player and a varsity baseball player so in his upbringing he never expected to coach tennis. He graduated from Ohio State. Dennis is also a fourth-grade math teacher and just loves to help kids. This tennis season has been some of the most successful for the boy's tennis team in a while. He stated they achieved over a 500 record for the first time in years and had a lot of competitive games in the doubles games. When I asked why he chose to coach tennis of all the sports being a varsity athlete in other sports, he stated he likes the challenge of tennis because he works with a lot of kids who wasn't athletic enough or big enough or maybe they just didn't want to play the popular sports of like basketball and football or such. He likes working with these kids because there different but hes teaching them that everyones talents and athletics might be different then others. He also stated that he just loves to give back to kids and lead kids to a successful path through athletics is the main reason he started coaching boys tennis. As the tennis season comes to an end he prepares to get his boys prepared for the postseason.
